Harriman Hikers is a
New York/ New Jersey singles hiking club that
meets at Ramapo College of New Jersey in Mahwah, NJ for hiking EVERY
Sunday, year-round, rain or shine. Established 1974, Harriman Hikers
is one of the longest existing singles organizations in the area.

The following night hike is in addition-to and does not replace or
affect Harriman Hikers regular Sunday Hike. Harriman Hikers meets
every Sunday for hiking, rain or shine, year-round, as we have for
over 30 years.

The following hike is coordinated privately by Bob Gawel and Rich Hobbs.

Bob Gawel will lead a Night Hike, Saturday Oct 7th.

Bob Gawel is a long-time area hiker and leader of the former singles
hiking group “Trailmix”. Bob has since moved upstate to the
mid-HudsonValley, NY area, but still returns to our area further south
several times a year to lead night hikes.

If you have ever been on one of Bob’s night hikes, you know they are
always great fun and are not to be missed!

DETAILS:

*RSVP is requested.*

DATE : Saturday, Oct 7th, 2006
MEETING : At the parking lot of the Doubletree Hotel, 180 Rt.17 South,
Mahwah, NJ 07430

TIME: btwn 3:00 and 3:30pm. Carpools will form for departure
*promptly* at 3:30 pm.

RAIN DATE/ WEATHER CONTINGENCIES

EVENT DURATION: We are generally back at the cars around 11pm-12am but
is open ended.

Sunset : 6:30
Moonrise : 6:40pm

–> Moonlight hikes are moderate (3-5 miles total).

BRING: (Food/Bev) Food and beverages to cookout and share. Sharing
food and refreshments is an integral part of this event, so *please do
not come empty-handed*.
BRING: Flashlight(s), headlamps or lantern.
WEAR: Seasonal outdoor clothing, a sweater or shell in case it gets chilly.
WEAR: Hiking footwear, this is a HIKE along wooded trails.

Note: Hiking destination will be determined by hike leader *day of
hike*, based on factors including, but not limited to: size of group,
abilities of hikers and prevailing weather conditions. Please do not
request destination ahead of time and please plan to meet up with the
group at the Doubletree for departure.

UPDATE 10/2/2006 DUE TO PREVIOUSLY UNFORESEEN AUTOMOBILE TRAFFIC
ISSUES ASSOCIATED WITH TRAVELLING TO MINNEWASKA DURING LEAF SEASON,
DESTINATION HAS BEEN CHANGED TO SHUNNEMUNK MOUNTAIN IN BLACK ROCK FOREST. HIKE DATE AND MEETUP TIME/PLACE REMAIN UNCHANGED. -HH

Harriman Hikers regular Sunday Hike. Harriman Hikers meets every
Sunday for hiking, rain or shine, year-round, as we have for over 30
years.

Ed Burdzy will lead a hike at Shunnemunk Mountain, NY on Saturday,
Oct 14th, 2006.

Meetup for Ed’s hike on Saturday, Oct. 14th is as usual for “Ed
Hikes”, 10am in the south (public) end of the parking lot at the Mason
Jar Restaurant on Route 202 in Mahwah, NJ.

Hikers in good physical condition are welcome to join Ed’s hike. If
you have hiked with the Harriman Hikers and can handle the usual 7-8
miles of hiking over hilly, rocky terrain, then you should be fine for
Ed’s Shunnemunk Hike.

*** GENERAL INFO:
Join your host, Phyllis, on Saturday, October 28, 2006 for a fun
filled day of lite-moderate hiking (w/Keith Tauman leading the hike)
and rock scrambling thru the famous Mohonk Labyrinth.

The day ends with a buffet dinner at the world-famous Mohonk Mountain House!

*** COST/ RESERVATIONS:
The price is $56.89 which covers the cost for admittance to Mohonk
($20 as a day guest) and a buffet dinner with beverages (alcoholic
beverages may be purchased separately at dinner), tax and tip
included. See www.mohonk.com for a complete buffet menu.

YOU MUST PREPAY YOUR WAY WITH A CREDIT CARD no later than Thursday Oct
26th, however if you wait that long to make a reservation, ! — >there
likely wont be any left. Because the hike date, Saturday, October 28th,
is during peak foliage season, RESERVATIONS WIL GO QUICKLY.

Call Mohonk Mountain House Dinner Reservations 845-256-2056 for hike/
diningroom reservations. Call during the weekday and make your
reservation with Diane. Let Diane know that you’ll be a “Buffet Dinner
Guest- 6:30 seating” and wish to be seated at dinner with the Harriman
Hikers/Phyllis Sacchi group.

You will receive a reservation confirmation number. Make sure you HAVE
YOUR CONFIRMATION NUMBER WITH YOU on Saturday, Oct 28th.

At the time you make your reservation, PLEASE CONTACT PHYLLIS at
myrealtorps@optonline.net or call Phyllis 973-981-6310. Please leave
your name, contact info and reservation number so as to log you in as
attending.

– No rain date available, but there is a 24hr cancellation policy if necessary.

***OTHER DETAILS:
– HIKING BOOTS are strongly reccommended.
– Please bring YOUR OWN LUNCH. We will stop to eat somewhere along the
trail in the early afternoon.
– A FANNY PACK is reccommended for easier maneuvering thru the rock
scramble. The rock scramble is a little challenging, but honestly,
everyone can do it. It’s very cool!

Dinner Attire:
Dinner is @ 6:30pm and attire is RESORT CASUAL; meaning… jeans &
sneakers are ok, but no shorts or t-shirts at dinner please.

Lockers may be available, will be confirmed at a later date. In the
meantime, there are bathrooms available for changing and you can leave
your changing bag or pack in the car until needed.

*** MEETUP:
– We will meet in the south (public) end of the parking lot of the
Mason Jar Restaurant on Route 202 in Mahwah, NJ, 07430. Map

-WE WILL LEAVE PROMPTLY AT 10:00AM

*** DRIVERS NEEDED- Please let Phyllis know if you’d be willing to drive
and how many people can fit in your car. CAR POOL VOLUNTEERS ARE
GREATLY APPRECIATED (as would a small donation to your driver for gas
& tolls if you DONT drive).

For your safety and that of others, DO NOT DRINK AND DRIVE.
